Things have become very personal, with Google that is. Google announced yesterday its “Search Plus Your World” feature which takes personalization to a whole other level. Danny Sullivan, of Search Engine Land, put it best when he said “Google’s search results are undergoing their most radical transformation ever, as the new ‘Search Plus Your World’ rolls out.”
The new “Search Plus Your World” feature finds both content that has been shared privately along with matches from the public Web, giving consumers the option to search via their personal connections or the social web in a single search. The personal results will be showcased at the top of the page and are based on consumers own behavior and their social connections, but only include content from Google+. As Sullivan notes, “’Search Plus Your World’ doesn’t cover content on Facebook. Or Twitter. Or Flickr. Or any social network or place where content might be shared to a more limited audience. Currently, ‘Search Plus Your World’ would be better described as ‘Search Plus Google+’.”
These changes continue to put emphasis on marketers need to implement social initiatives that facilitate the creation and sharing of consumer-generated content and the need to include Google+ as a key part of their marketing strategy. At Extole, our Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C) social marketing solution enables brands to launch social programs that encourage consumers to share about brands via their social graphs (i.e. Goggle+, Facebook, Twitter, etc). This consumer-generated content will help brands increase their SERP (see yesterday’s post) and will show up in a consumers personal search results if they have created or shared content via Google+.
With 80% of the world using Google to power their searches, brands must employ a social platform that encourages consumers to share about brands as social media continues to play a much larger role in SEO.
